About the Japanese Society of Melbourne (JSM)
The Japanese Society of Melbourne (JSM) was established in July 1965. The aim of the JSM is to build and improve friendships between its members, as well as to contribute to the development of cultural relations and friendly interaction between Australia and Japan.
JSM's Membership
Class of Members
Membership of the Society shall consist of:
(a) Supporting Members;
(b) OrdinaryMembers; and
(c) Associate Members.
Supporting Members shall comprise such bodies (whether incorporated or not) as employ at least
one Ordinary Member (each such employee being, for the purposes of these Rules, a
grepresentativeh of such Supporting Member) and which apply for and are admitted to membership
of the Society in accordance with these Rules.
Ordinary Members shall comprise such Japanese citizens or of Japanese origin who have attained
20 years of age and who are employed and/or reside in Melbourne and metropolitan area and apply
for and are admitted to the membership of the Society in accordance with these Rules. Each person
admitted as an Ordinary Member shall be classified (at the election of the Member concerned) as
holding either:
(a) single membership; or
(b) family membership.
Associate Members shall comprise such persons other than Supporting and Ordinary Members who
are admitted to the membership of the Society subject to the approval by the Committee. Before the
Committee can approve an Associate Memberfs application the applicant must acknowledge and
accept that all activities of the Society shall be conducted in Japanese. Associate Members shall not
be eligible for election to any office and shall not be eligible to vote.
Register of Members
The Secretary shall keep and maintain a register of Members in which shall be entered in full
name and address of each member and such other particulars as may be prescribed by the
Committee. The register shall be available for inspection by Members of the Office.
FEES
Admission Fees
Each Member, on joining the Association, shall pay a joining fee equal to the then current monthly
fee for the respective category of membership of the Member concerned.
Monthly Fees
9. The following monthly fees shall be paid by a Member;

Supporting Members
(per representative): $20.00
OrdinaryMembers:
- Single Membership $7.50 per person
- Family Membership $10.00 per family
Associate Membership $4.50 per person
